Philadelphia PA, Friday April 6th, 2012 at 12pm Occupy Philadelphia met at Rittenhouse Square for the beginning of what is to be a 48 hour Occupation of Independence Mall located between 5th street and 4th on Market.

They began the weekend long event with a series of Spring Training teach-ins and sign making though many of the signs that would be carried in the subsequent march to the Mall were made over the course of the previous two nights in the basement of the Ethical Society and at an Occupiers home.

The signs expressed the Occupy Movements angst over the greed of wall Street, corporate banks such as the now Philly infamous Wells Fargo and over Corporate money's domination throughout the political sphere.

Some of the Spring Training teach-ins included a know your Rights class held at 1pm by legal collective member Jody Dodd and a march conduct and peaceful resistance training course put together by the Direct Action committee.

The Occupiers present at Rittenhouse Sqr. Began the march to Independence Mall  at 3:05 pm.

They marched down 18th street to Market Street, making stops at various financial institutions to remind them that they were still a force to be reckoned with.

Some of the locations they stopped to demonstrate infront of were the Philadelphia Stock Exchange at 1900 Market Street, where they made they turn form 18th on to Market proceeding to City Hall.

They also stopped at several Wells Fargo Branch locations and PNC branch locations along the route to inform people of the banks crimes against the people of the City of Philadelphia, and humanity in general.

Also to tell personal stories of how they themselves or people they know have been affected by the exorbitant greed and disregard for people and life in general shown by these global financial institutions and the politicians that pander to them.

The protesters stopped at City Hall to remember the sixth month anniversary of Occupy Philadelphia, organizers talked about what the encampment meant to those that had lived there long before Occupy Philly came along, enumerating the 1500 meals that were served out of the encampments food tent each day, without a single incident of food born illness.

The spoke about the eviction and the cruelty of turning the plaza into a privately owned park and Ice Skating Rink while the homeless are still on the street suffering, because they shelter system is too full, and often have worse conditions than the side walks and alleyways they regularly sleep on.

After their brief stop at City Hall they made their way around the ongoing construction site to the east side of market where they marched to take back their freedom from Fascist Government oppression.

On arriving at the mall they broke into smaller groups in behind the First Amendment monument and in front of the visitor.

The event was being conducted without a permit, so they had to keep the groups to twenty-five people or less.
One of the groups read aloud from the declaration of independence, as a crowd gathered around with mock American Flags displaying corporate logos instead of stars.

After settling in they celebrated there newly won metaphorical independence with a flag football game, dance, food, a drum circle and more teach-ins including.

One of the Occupiers cleansed the area with Sage smoke in a traditional spiritual ceremony.

At 7:30 in the evening an interfaith service was conducted.

Occupy Philly Free University held teach-ins throughout the night, including an intro to computer programing class and a Lenape Heirloom Seed Workshop held at midnight.
