Standing Strong Against Corporatist Union of Fux Church and NYPD: Suppression runs rampant

Me, Dani and chilly arrived after several days’ worth of delays and a 14hr bus ride from Charlotte around 2:30 p.m. We grabbed our gear and made the trek across town from the Port Authority to the corner of Broad St. and Wall St., a more than 60 block march in the afternoon sun.

When we arrived at Trinity we were greeted with hugs and a “Welcome Home,” from several O.W.S protesters, some we had met on previous assignments other for the first time. All are welcomed as brothers and sisters by the ones out on the street doing the dirty work of occupying.

WHERE IS THE LOVE FOR THOSE STRANDED IN CHARLOTTE? Is Solidarity Just Another Catch Phrase

Why is it that nearly two dozen Occupiers from the same general part of the country and heading to the same place had to be stranded for several days down in Charlotte after the DNC?

These dedicated activists came down to protest both the RNC and DNC risking not just their freedom but potentially their lives. The National Guard who was present but well hidden were give orders to shoot to kill, should protesters break the police lines and make it out of the so called free speech zones into the convention areas.

ENCAMPED IN ENEMY HELD TERRITORY: One Small Occupy Camps Struggle

CHARLOTTE, NC On the first day of DNC activity protestors took some public space for their own, occupying Marshal Park, right dab smack in the center of the Militarized Zone.

The beautiful park lays right in the middle of the governmental district of the city on the in-between McDowell St and Davidson St on 3rd St.

The park offers a large manmade lake with a fountain, a bridge over the water and plenty of grassy space for tents, fairly easy access to various parts of town considering the tightness of security in the city.

CHARLOTTE,NC Protesters have been going out to take the streets day and night throughout the DNC, with little to no problems with police.

The only semi-violent interactions with the police were one bystander resisting arrest and when on an Anti-capitalist march Black Bloc using a five foot by ten foot black canvas flag as a shield to push through a police line and the police out of fear grabbed the flag, attempting to pull it out of the marcher’s hands.

September 2, 2012, Charlotte, NC The first day of the people taking to the streets in Charlotte against the DNC went extremely smoothly despite small numbers, the oppressive southern heat, number of police and other forms of oppression.
