"The Sleep of Reason Produces Monsters" Halloween Zombie March

Several hundred occupier-zombies, puppets, banners such as this one, reading "Capitalism is organized crime; defend the 99%," flags, bikes, bullhorn, and chants like "What do we want? Brains! When do we want them? Brains!" and better yet, "Werewolves are hairy, but capitalism is scary," filled the streets this Halloween night. The anticapitalism zombies decried corporate zombies, as they made through way from center city to South Philly and back again, taking to the streets in high, festive spirits.

(With luck, some of the zombie participants will post more pictures and also video tomorrow!)

Insurrection, Oakland Style: A History by Matthew Edwards

This is an unfinished work – a snapshot of history as it occurred, experienced by me, reported on social media, or retold by trusted comrades. It will lack the finality of hindsight. Contained within is my account of the Oakland Insurrection, as it has unfolded over the past days and weeks. Both the insurrection and this essay are works of hope. I hope that we push forward on the streets of Oakland, the Bay Area, and everywhere else, to the limit of what is possible – beyond occupation and the proposed general strike to “total freedom” for us all.1

Angela Davis Speaks at Occupy Philly after Marching across Town with Hundreds of the 99%

On October 28, 2011 at 9:15 pm, several hundred of the 99% plus Angela Davis marched from the Critical Refusals conference in West Philly, where she was the keynote speaker, to Occupy Philly base camp (aka City Hall). After a spontaneous march around City Hall, she addressed the crowd, which had grown to an estimated 1,000 people.

This video captures the ecstatic meet-up between those of us waiting at Occupy Philly with those who marched across town to join us, chanting, "This is what a flash mob looks like!" and "We are unstoppable! Another world is possible!"
